How to Join and Play on Friends’ Dedicated Valheim Servers

To host a dedicated Valheim server that your friends can join, you need to:

  1. Install the Valheim Dedicated Server tool on Steam on the computer you want to host the server on.
  2. Configure the server by editing the “start_server_bepinex.bat” file. Set a server name, world name, password, etc.
  3. Port forward ports 2456-2458 on your router to the computer running the Valheim server.
  4. Give your friends your external IP address and the port (default 2456) to connect.

Joining a Friends’ Dedicated Valheim Server

To join a friends’ dedicated Valheim server, you need to:

  1. Launch Valheim on Steam.
  2. Click “Join Game” on the main menu.
  3. Click “Join IP” and enter your friend’s external IP address and port (default 2456).
  4. Enter the server password if prompted.
  5. You will now connect to your friend’s server and join their world!

  • Make sure your friend gives you their external IP, not internal one.
