How to Make Nearly Indestructible Netherite Armor Sets in Minecraft

Netherite armor is the strongest and most durable armor currently available in Minecraft. Crafting a full set takes some effort, but the payoff is absolutely worth it. This indestructible gear will keep you safe as you explore the most dangerous areas of the game.

What is Netherite?

Netherite was introduced in the 1.16 Nether Update. It is a rare material found only in the Nether dimension. Netherite has some unique properties:

  • More durable than diamond, the previous best armor material
  • Fireproof and lava-proof – netherite items don’t burn
  • Higher enchantability than diamond
  • Gives knockback resistance to wearers
  • Can be used to upgrade diamond gear

To craft it, you need to find ancient debris in the Nether and smelt it into netherite scrap. Combine 4 scrap with 4 gold ingots to make 1 netherite ingot, which can then be used to upgrade diamond gear.

Step 1: Gear Up for the Nether

The Nether is an extremely hostile environment, so be well prepared before mining for ancient debris.

  • Full enchanted diamond armor – Protection IV, Unbreaking III, Mending
  • Diamond sword with Sharpness V and Looting III
  • Diamond pickaxe with Efficiency V and Unbreaking III
  • Shield
  • Bow or crossbow for ranged attacks
  • Building blocks – cobblestone, dirt, etc
  • Beds or TNT for finding debris
  • Fire Resistance potions
  • Golden apples and god gear for emergency healing

Make sure to carry an Ender Chest to safely store any debris and scraps you collect.

Step 2: Mine for Ancient Debris

Ancient debris is very rare, found between Y levels 8 to 119 in the Nether. The fastest way to expose it is by blowing up large areas with beds or TNT.

  • Descend to Y level 15 and start blasting out long 3-block tall tunnels.
  • Place beds/TNT every 3-5 blocks and detonate them.
  • Loot any exposed ancient debris – it looks like cracked blackstone bricks.
  • Store the debris in your Ender Chest and repeat.

On average, you’ll need 4 debris to craft 1 ingot, and 4 ingots for a full armor set. So keep mining until you have around 16 debris. Watch out for lava and hostile mobs while mining!

Step 3: Craft Netherite Ingots

Once you have collected enough debris, find a safe area in the Nether to craft your netherite ingots:

  • Place a crafting table and furnace.
  • Smelt the ancient debris into netherite scrap.
  • Craft 4 scrap with 4 gold ingots to make 1 netherite ingot.
  • Repeat until you have 4 ingots – enough for full armor!

Step 4: Make a Smithing Table

A smithing table is required to upgrade diamond gear to netherite. You’ll need:

  • 4 wood planks
  • 2 iron ingots

Craft these together to make the Smithing Table. If you don’t have iron on you, you can find pre-made smithing tables in bastion remnant loot chests.

Step 5: Upgrade Your Diamond Gear

The actual process of upgrading to netherite armor is very easy:

  1. Place the Smithing Table down.
  2. Put your diamond armor piece in the middle slot.
  3. Put a netherite ingot in the right slot.
  4. Take your new netherite armor piece!

Repeat for all 4 armor slots until you have a full set. All customized names, enchantments, and prior work penalties on the diamond gear will carry over.

Step 6: Enchant Your Netherite Armor

Your netherite armor is already tough to destroy, but enchanting it makes it nearly indestructible:

Helmet

  • Respiration III
  • Aqua Affinity
  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending

Chestplate

  • Protection IV
  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending

Leggings

  • Protection IV
  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending

Boots

  • Depth Strider III
  • Feather Falling IV
  • Soul Speed III
  • Unbreaking III
  • Mending

This maximizes defense, durability, and mobility. You are now ready to explore anywhere!

Tips for Keeping Your Netherite Gear Safe

  • Carry an Ender Chest to store it when mining or fighting.
  • Create backups in case you die and can’t recover your gear.
  • Get XP often to repair your items with Mending.
  • Avoid lava or putting your armor in containers – it can still despawn!

As long as you don’t lose your priceless armor to a lava pool, it will serve you well for the rest of the game! You are now an unstoppable force clad in the best gear Minecraft has to offer.
