How To Obtain Your Unique Stream Key for Broadcasting on Twitch

  1. Click on your profile picture in the top right corner and select “Creator Dashboard” from the dropdown menu
  2. On the left sidebar, click on “Settings”
  3. Under “Channel and Videos”, select the “Stream” tab
  4. Your primary stream key will be shown at the top (it may be covered by default as a security measure – click “Show” to reveal it)
  5. Click the “Copy” button to copy your stream key
  6. Paste the stream key into your broadcasting software like OBS or XSplit

The stream key acts as an authorization code that lets your broadcasting software stream to your Twitch channel. It’s meant to be private and not shared with others.

If you ever need to change your stream key, you can click the “Reset” button on this page to generate a new one at any time. But keep in mind any software using your old key will need the new one entered to be able to stream again.

I would not recommend trying to get the stream key via the Twitch API using a username and password, as that could pose a security risk. The proper way is to have the broadcaster log into their Twitch account and copy their own stream key to use as shown in the steps above.
