Before You Start
Before attempting to remove the camera, make sure to:
- Unplug the power cable so the camera is powered off
- Have a stable ladder or step stool if the camera is mounted up high
- Use caution when working with tools at height
Tools You’ll Need
Gather the following tools:
- Phillips screwdriver
- Flashlight (if removing camera in dim lighting)
- Gloves to protect your hands
Step-by-Step Guide
Follow these steps to safely detach your Wyze cam:
1. Remove the camera from the mount plate
The camera attaches to a mounting plate that is screwed into the wall. Locate the screw on the underside of the mounting plate that secures the camera. Use your Phillips screwdriver to loosen the screw 5-6 turns counter-clockwise. Do not fully remove the screw! Just loosen it enough to release the camera from the mount.
Gently pull the base of the camera away from the mount. Be careful not to tug too hard on the attached cables.
2. Disconnect the cables
With the camera removed from the mounting plate, disconnect any attached cables like the power adapter or Ethernet cable. Grip the plastic connectors firmly and pull straight out to detach the cables.
3. Unscrew the mounting plate
Now you can fully remove the mounting plate from the wall. Use your screwdriver to loosen each of the screws. On drywall, there are typically two screws. Masonry walls may have expansion anchors requiring a bit more effort to extract.
Carefully pull the mounting plate away and store it safely if you plan to reuse it later.
4. Patch and touch up the wall
Examine the wall for any damage around the screw holes. On drywall, you may need to apply joint compound and touch up with paint. For masonry walls, fill anchor holes with spackle.
Wipe away any dust and debris left over from the removal process.
Final Safety Checks
Before completing the project:
- Secure any loose cables or wires
- Discard removed wall anchors properly
- Store the camera, screws, and mounting plate together
