Snapchat is a popular social media app that allows users to send photos, videos, and messages that disappear after being viewed. However, with the Memories feature, Snapchat now allows you to save your favorite Snaps and Stories so you can view them again later. Here’s a guide on how to view, save, and replay old Snapchat Memories and Stories.
Table of Contents
Accessing Your Snapchat Memories
To view your old Snapchat Memories:
- Open the Snapchat app and swipe up from the camera screen. This will open your Memories tab.
- All your saved Snaps and Stories will be displayed here.
- You can scroll through to view them or use the search bar to search for specific keywords, locations, or dates.
Saving New Snaps and Stories to Memories
To make sure you don’t lose any new Snaps or Stories you want to keep:
- When viewing a new Snap, tap the download icon in the bottom left corner before sending it or it expires. This saves it to Memories.
- To save a Story, click the 3-dot menu icon while viewing it and select “Save to Memories”.
- You can also save existing Stories by opening Memories, tapping the Story you want to save, and tapping the download icon.
Reposting Memories
If you want to share an old Snap or Story again:
- Open Memories and tap the Snap or Story you want to repost.
- Edit it if desired, then select “Send” or “Add to My Story” to share it again.
- Old Snaps reposted to your Story will display a timestamp so friends know it’s a #Throwback moment.
Replay Options
To replay an expiring Snap:
- After opening it once, long-press on the sender’s name and tap the Snap to replay it once.
- Note: The sender will be notified you replayed their Snap.
To replay Stories:
- Tap a friend’s profile icon at the top of the Stories screen to replay their Story.
- You can replay Stories as many times as you want until they expire.
Retrieving Deleted Memories
If you accidentally deleted a Snap or Story from Memories:
- Go to your Snapchat Settings > My Data > Submit Request
- Select “Memories” content to download your archived Memories.
- Open the Memories file Snapchat emails you to access your deleted Snaps.
By using the Memories feature and Replay options wisely, you can relive and reshare your favorite Snapchat moments even after they disappear!
Saving Snapchat Memories to Your Camera Roll
If you want to save your Snapchat Memories outside of the app as a backup, you can save them directly to your phone’s camera roll:
- Open the Snapchat Memories tab
- Tap the Memories you want to save
- Tap the 3-dot menu icon
- Select “Save to Camera Roll”
The Snap or Story will now be saved to your camera roll so you have a copy that won’t disappear if your Memories tab is cleared.
Changing Snapchat Memories Privacy Settings
By default, only you can view your Snapchat Memories tab. However, you can change the privacy settings to control who else can view your Memories:
- Go to your Snapchat Profile > Settings (gear icon) > Memories
- Under “Who Can View My Memories”, choose from “Only Me”, “My Friends”, or “Everyone”
Be careful allowing “Everyone” to view your Memories, as they will be publicly accessible to all Snapchat users!
My Eyes Only for Private Memories
If you have very personal or private Memories you only want yourself to be able to view, use the My Eyes Only feature:
- Tap the Memories you want to make private
- Tap the 3-dot menu icon
- Select “Move to My Eyes Only”
- These Memories can only be viewed if your phone is unlocked and you enter your Snapchat password.
My Eyes Only gives you tighter control over your most personal Snapchat Memories.
Conclusion
Snapchat Memories gives you an easy way to save special Snaps and Stories before they disappear forever. You can replay, edit, reshare, and manage old Snapchat memories to relive fun moments with friends or create fresh content to share. Just be careful with privacy settings if you don’t want certain Memories viewable by all.
