How to View Edit History on Google Keep

Limited Version History Available Only on Web

Google Keep has recently started rolling out a basic version history feature, but it is only available on the web version at keep.google.com (not the mobile apps).

To access it:

  • Go to keep.google.com
  • Hover over a note and click on it
  • Click the three dots “More” menu
  • Select “Version history”

You will then see previous versions of that note and can download a text file of a specific version.

Limitations

  • Only available on web, not mobile apps
  • Only shows previous versions of text changes, images are not included
  • You can download a text file of a previous version but cannot view it or restore it within Keep

So while it provides some ability to recover lost text changes, the version history capabilities are still very limited compared to other note apps.

No Ability to See Edit Times

Keep does show the last edited time of a note, but there is no way to see previous edit times or a full edit history.

Data Can Still be Deleted

Keep data could still be deleted or hacked with no way to recover, as it does not have robust version history like Google Docs.

So in summary – Keep now has a basic version history on the web that allows recovering some lost text, but its capabilities are still limited compared to other note apps.
