With the rise of remote work and virtual communication, having high-quality video capabilities has become more important than ever. Turning your smartphone into a wireless webcam is a great way to use your phone’s camera, especially if you don’t have a built-in webcam or you want to have more flexibility in positioning your camera.
What is DroidCam?
DroidCam is an application that allows you to use your phone as a webcam on your computer over WiFi or USB. It is developed by Dev47Apps.
DroidCam works by connecting your phone and your PC over a WiFi or USB cable and streaming the video and audio from your phone to your PC. You need to install two components: the DroidCam app on your phone, and the DroidCam Client on your PC. The DroidCam Client also installs the webcam drivers on your PC, so that video chat programs can recognize DroidCam as a webcam. You can use DroidCam with popular video chat programs like Zoom, Skype, MS Teams, and more.
How to set up DroidCam
1. Download and install the DroidCam app on your phone from the Google Play Store.
2. Download and install the DroidCam Client on your PC.
3. Make sure your phone and your PC are connected to the same WiFi network. If you want to use a USB connection, you need to enable USB debugging on your phone and connect it to your PC with a USB cable.
4. Open the DroidCam app on your phone and note down the WiFi IP and DroidCam Port numbers displayed on the screen.
5. Open the DroidCam Client on your PC and select WiFi as the connection mode. Enter the WiFi IP and DroidCam Port numbers from your phone and click Start.
6. You should see a preview of your phone’s camera on your PC screen.
7. Open your video chat program of choice, Zoom for example, and select DroidCam as the video and microphone source.
You can also use DroidCam in background mode on your phone, so you can keep using your phone for other tasks while streaming video.
If you want more features, you can upgrade to DroidCamX for $5.49, which lets you switch to HD mode for 720p/1080p video, control camera settings like light, focus, zoom, etc., rotate, flip, and mirror the video, auto-mute phone calls, and more.
