- Click the “Collapse” button (represented by a vertical line with a right-pointing arrow) in the top right corner of the chat window. This will hide the chat, allowing the stream to fill the screen.[18]
- Put the stream into full screen mode, either by clicking the full screen icon or pressing “F”. This will hide all elements like chat and recommended channels.[18] Exit full screen to restore chat.
- In OBS Studio, go to View > Docks and uncheck the Twitch Chat entry to disable the integrated chat window.[13]
On mobile:
- On iPhone, tilt your phone to landscape, tap the video, and tap the “Hide chat” icon which looks like a chat bubble with a line through it.[14][17]
- On Android, double tap the screen while watching in landscape orientation to hide chat.[2]
As a streamer:
- Use a separate pop-out chat window in OBS Studio by logging into Twitch, clicking “Popout chat” in the chat settings.[22]
- Use an overlay or software like Twitch Studio to display chat over your game screen.[15]
- View chat externally using Chatty or the Twitch chat web page for your channel.[11]
Moderators also have access to a dedicated Mod View for moderation.[20]
The chat cannot be fully disabled for viewers, but these methods allow hiding it as needed.[13] Some reasons to hide chat include harassment, spam, spoilers, or simply wanting to focus on the stream video.
