How to Manually Dim and Darken Your Xbox One Screen Display

There are several ways to manually dim or darken the screen on your Xbox One console:

Manually Trigger Idle/Dim Screen

  1. Press and hold the Xbox button on your controller until you see the power options menu
  2. Select the “X” button to instantly dim the screen and put the console into idle mode[1]

Change Idle Timer Settings

  1. Go to Settings > Preferences > Idle Options
  2. Adjust the timer for when the screen auto-dims, from 2 to 60 minutes or disable idle notifications[1]

Enable Night Mode

  1. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Night Mode
  2. Turn on Dark Theme or Light Theme to dim screen and controller[5]

Set a Schedule for Night Mode

  1. In Night Mode settings, choose to automatically enable at sunset and disable at sunrise[17]

Adjust Screen Brightness

  1. Go to Settings > Display & Sound > Brightness
