Steam and Origin are two of the most popular digital game distribution platforms. Both allow you to purchase, download, and play PC games online. However, they use separate game libraries and launchers.
If you have games in your Origin library that you wish to add or import to your Steam library, it is possible to do so with a few simple steps. Here is a guide on how to add and import your Origin games into Steam.
Table of Contents
Linking Origin and Steam
The first step is to link your Origin and Steam accounts:
- Open the Steam client and go to the “Games” menu. Select “Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library”.
- A window will pop up with options to add games. Click on “Add a Game from Another Platform”.
- A browser window will open. Log in to your Origin account here and grant permission for Steam to access your Origin games library.
- Once logged in and permission granted, your Origin games will appear in the Steam window. Check the box next to any Origin games you want to add to Steam.
- Click “Add Selected Programs” at the bottom. Your selected Origin games are now added to your Steam library!
Manually Adding Origin Games
You can also manually add Origin game executables (.exe files) to your Steam library:
- Open Steam and go to the “Games” menu. Select “Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library”.
- Click “Browse” and navigate to the location of your Origin games folder, usually something like
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games
. - Locate the
.exe
file for the Origin game you want to add. Select it and click “Open”. - The Origin game will now show up in your Steam library to add. Check the box next to it and click “Add Selected Programs”.
Get Steam Overlay and Features
Once added to Steam, your Origin games will appear just like regular Steam games. However, the Steam overlay and features will not work unless you add launch options:
- Right click on the imported Origin game in your Steam library and select “Properties”.
- Click the “General” tab if not already selected.
- In the “Launch Options” box, enter:
origin2steam://gameid/<gameid>
- The game ID can be found by searching the Origin2Steam database.
- With launch options added, Steam features like the overlay, screenshots, controller support etc will now work when launching the Origin game through Steam.
Import Friends and Game Time Data
To import your Origin friends list and game time play data into Steam:
- Install Origin2Steam Importer
- Run the importer. It will scan your Origin games and pull in relevant data to Steam like friends list, achievements, game time tracking etc.
- Your Steam library will now show Origin play time tracking, achievements etc as if native Steam games.
Sync Achievements Between Platforms
You can use a tool called EOCFix to sync achievements between Origin and Steam versions of the same game:
- Download and install EOCFix
- Run EOCFix and keep it open while playing the game
- When you earn achievements in the Origin version, EOCFix will unlock the same achievements in the Steam version and vice versa
- This allows you to consolidate achievement progress rather than having separate ones for the Origin and Steam versions
Seamlessly Launch Games
To make added Origin games launch seamlessly through Steam without the Origin client popping up:
- Download and install Origin DLC Unlocker
- Run Origin DLC Unlocker before launching the Origin game through Steam
- This tool will spoof the Origin API calls needed to launch the game properly through Steam alone
Troubleshooting Tips
If games do not launch or run into errors, try these troubleshooting steps:
- Run Steam and Origin clients as administrator
- Disable the Origin in-game overlay under Origin settings
- Update graphics card drivers and DirectX software
- Verify integrity of game files in Steam to redownload corrupted data
- Completely uninstall and reinstall both Steam and Origin clients
- Reboot your PC and relaunch Steam to force refresh all connections
