Procreate is a popular digital illustration app available for iPad. With its intuitive interface and powerful drawing tools, it has become a favorite for artists to create digital art and illustrations on the go.
One useful but often overlooked feature in Procreate is the ability to change the interface language. Procreate supports multiple interface languages, allowing users who speak other languages to use the app in their native tongue.
Changing the language in Procreate is simple. Follow these steps:
Table of Contents
Check Your iPad’s Language Settings
Before changing the language in Procreate, check what languages you already have enabled on your iPad:
- Go to the Settings app on your iPad
- Tap on
General
- Scroll down and tap on
Language & Region
- Here you can see the current language set as well as other available languages
If the language you want to use in Procreate is already added, great! If not, tap Add a Language...
to search and add additional languages.
Change the Language in Procreate
Once your desired language is added to your iPad’s languages, go to Procreate and:
- Open Procreate
- Go to the
Wrench
icon to access Settings - Scroll down and tap on
Language
- Select your desired language from the list
Procreate should immediately switch the interface language. If it does not change right away, force quit the Procreate app and launch it again. The language should now display properly.
Tip: Your iPad system language does not need to match Procreate’s app language. Feel free to mix and match!
Common Languages Supported
Procreate supports many popular languages, including:
- English
- Spanish
- French
- German
- Italian
- Japanese
- Korean
- Simplified Chinese
- Traditional Chinese
And more languages are being added all the time.
If your native language is not listed above, check the Procreate language settings to see if it has been recently added. If your language is still unsupported, you can provide feedback to Procreate to request adding that language.
Benefits of Changing the Language
Why change the language in Procreate? Here are some benefits:
- Work in your native language – For many artists, creating art and media in their native tongue comes more naturally. The language change allows for a more intuitive and seamless workflow.
- Share with international audiences – Sharing your Procreate creations, tips, and tutorials with international followers is easier when the app language matches the content language.
- Learn new languages – Artists learning a new language can immerse themselves further by forcing Procreate into that language. It’s great practice for learning specialized vocabulary too!
So don’t be afraid to explore Procreate in another language. The app layout stays consistent, only the text changes. Give it a try for your next artistic project!
Troubleshooting Language Issues
In some rare cases, you may run into issues when switching language in Procreate:
- Text looks garbled – If the interface text appears garbled after a language change, the font Procreate uses may not support that language. Try switching to another language and then switch back to force a font change.
- Some text doesn’t change – Occasionally a few interface elements may not translate after a language change. This is likely an oversight by the developers rather than an actual issue. You can provide feedback to Procreate if the untranslated text bothers you.
- Can’t find language – If your desired language does not appear at all in the Language settings, double check that you have added that language properly at the iPad system level first. If the language then appears, great! If not, the language truly may not yet be supported in Procreate. Provide feedback requesting support.
