How to Download and Save Reddit Videos to Camera Roll

As an avid Reddit user, you likely come across many entertaining or informative videos that you may want to save for later viewing or sharing. However, Reddit does not have a built-in option to download videos directly to your device’s camera roll.

Fortunately, there are several easy methods to save Reddit videos to your phone or computer. As a Reddit user for over 5 years, I have found the following to be the best ways to download Reddit videos.

Using the Reddit Mobile App

The Reddit mobile app for iOS and Android offers the simplest way to save videos from the app directly to your camera roll:

  • Open the Reddit post containing the video and tap on the “Share” icon
  • Select “Save Video” and the video file will save directly to your camera roll

  • Fast and easy one-tap download
  • Saves directly to camera roll

  • Only works in Reddit mobile app, not on desktop
  • Does not work for all videos

Using Third-Party Reddit Video Downloaders

If the native Reddit app doesn’t give you a “Save Video” option, third-party web tools offer a foolproof way to download videos. My favorite is because it is fast, free, and works on desktop and mobile.

Here are the steps to use

  1. Copy the post URL of the Reddit video
  2. Paste the URL into
  3. Click the “Download” button next to the video quality you want
  4. The video will download to your device

Other top Reddit video savers include:

  • Works on desktop and mobile
  • Can download any Reddit video

  • Contains ads
  • Need to copy/paste URLs

Using a Screen Recording App

If other methods don’t work, screen recording the Reddit video as it plays is another option.

On iPhone, use the built-in Screen Recording option:

  1. Open Control Center and tap the Screen Record icon
  2. Start recording and play the Reddit video
  3. Stop recording when finished and find the video in your camera roll

On Android, download a screen recorder app like AZ Screen Recorder or DU Recorder. The steps are basically the same – start recording, play video, stop recording, save video.

  • Guaranteed way to save any video
  • Records audio

  • Time consuming
  • Large video files

Saving Videos on Desktop Reddit

While the Reddit website does not have a native video downloader, desktop browser extensions like Video DownloadHelper make saving Reddit videos on PC/Mac simple:

  1. Install extension and enable for Reddit
  2. Play the video and a “Download” button will appear
  3. Click it to save the video file

Alternatively, you can right click on the video and select “Save video as”.

  • One-click video downloads
  • Works on many sites beyond just Reddit

  • Requires installing extension
  • May not work on all videos

Using a Desktop Reddit Client like Apollo or Sync

Rather than using the Reddit website directly, desktop and mobile Reddit clients like Apollo and Sync provide easy options for saving media.

To save videos in Apollo or Sync:

  1. Install app and enable media saving in settings
  2. Tap “Share” below post and select “Save Video”
  3. Access saved videos in-app or camera roll

  • Simple one-tap saving
  • Dedicated media viewer/library

  • Requires installing separate app
  • Sync does not work with v.reddit videos

Converting & Downloading Reddit Videos as MP3

To save just the audio from a Reddit video as an MP3 music file:

  1. Use a video downloader to save the video
  2. Upload to a YouTube to MP3 converter like YTMP3
  3. Download the extracted audio in MP3 format

Then you can add it to your music library.

  • Lets you take audio on the go
  • Small file size

  • Quality depends on source video
  • Additional conversion step

So in summary, while Reddit does not offer native video saving, using the mobile apps, third-party tools, browser extensions, Reddit clients, and MP3 converters makes downloading videos easy.

The next time you want to save a funny, informative or shareable Reddit video, use one of the above methods to quickly download it to your camera roll or computer. Let me know in the comments if you have any other tips for saving videos!
