The lights going out is one of the most common sabotages in Among Us. As an impostor, it’s an easy way to sow chaos and confusion, allowing you to pick off crewmates one by one. As a crewmate, fixing the lights is a terrifying task, as you never know if the impostor is waiting in the shadows to take you out. Here’s everything you need to know about the lights sabotage and how to fix it.

What Happens When The Lights Are Sabotaged
When the impostor sabotages the lights, visibility for crewmates drops drastically. The impostor’s visibility is unaffected, however, giving them a huge advantage. In addition:
- The sabotage prevents the crew from calling emergency meetings until it’s resolved
- Impostors cannot initiate another sabotage until this one is fixed
- 1-5 light switches in electrical will be turned off, requiring crewmates to turn them back on
- Crewmate vision depends on the vision setting – at the default (0.5x), the lights sabotage cuts vision down to almost nothing
So when the lights go out, crewmates are left stumbling around in the dark, unable to call for help, while the impostor hunts them down.
How To Fix Broken Lights
To fix the lights, crewmates must head to electrical and flip the switches back on. The locations of electrical are:
- The Skeld – Electrical room
- MIRA HQ – Office
- Polus – Electrical room
- Airship – Cargo Bay, Gap Room, Viewing Deck (must fix in only one location)
Simply flip all the switches back to the “on” position to resolve the sabotage. Beware – the impostor can sabotage again mid-fix, turning switches back off.
Stick together in groups when fixing lights, and try to have one person guard the door in case the impostor is waiting to pick crewmates off.
Tips For Fixing Lights
Fixing lights can be risky, here are some tips to stay safe:
- Always move in groups of 2-3. Avoid going alone.
- Designate one person to guard the door.
- If you pass a vent on the way to electrical, check that no one is hiding inside.
- Periodically spin in circles as you move so no one can sneak up behind you.
- If you finish early, don’t leave immediately. Wait for the whole group to finish.
- If you pass a body on the way to fix lights, report it immediately. The impostor could be banking on the dark rooms to hide their kills.
How Impostors Can Exploit Sabotaged Lights
As an impostor, sabotaging the lights presents many opportunities to take out crewmates:
Hiding in Vents
Vent into electrical before disabling lights. Crewmates fixing the switches won’t be able to see you hop out of the vent behind them.
Hiding Behind Walls
Stand just outside electrical, hiding around the corner. Pick off fixers one by one as they leave the room.
Faking Tasks
Hang out at common task locations like wires or upload. Crewmates won’t be able to see that you aren’t actually completing them.
Baiting Crewmates
Sabotage lights, then run to electrical like you’re going to fix it. Crewmates will follow you for safety. Lead them right to the impostor.
Preventing Repeated Sabotage
The impostor can re-sabotage the lights over and over, sending the crew right back into darkness. Here is how to prevent repeated sabotage:
- Always move in groups, never split up even after fixing lights
- Designate someone to stand by the electrical door and watch for impostors sneaking in
- Try to fix lights as fast as possible before the cooldown ends
- If you have completed all your tasks, stand guard in electrical to keep switches flipped on
Restoring Broken Lights Tasks
If your lights tasks get broken by endless sabotage, there are a few things the crew can try:
Skip Voting
Call an emergency meeting and convince everyone to skip voting. This gives crewmates time to regroup and move together without risk of losing an innocent player.
Vote Out Suspected Impostors
If someone is acting suspicious, call a meeting to vote them out, even if you aren’t 100% sure. It’s better to lose one crewmate than allow repeated sabotage.
Complete All Tasks
Work together to speedrun tasks during the cooldown between light sabotages. If you complete all tasks, crewmates win automatically, regardless of sabotage.
Fix Lights As Team
Get the whole remaining crew to fix lights together. An impostor is less likely to attack a large group, allowing you to resolve the sabotage.
With some coordination and teamwork, crews can overcome even the most determined light-sabotaging impostors. Just stick together, watch each other’s backs, and get those tasks done!
