How to Make a Slideshow on a Chromecast

Chromecast is a handy media streaming device that allows you to cast photos, videos, and more from your phone, tablet, or computer directly to your TV. Making a slideshow using Chromecast is easy and allows you to display your photos in a dynamic way for family and friends to enjoy.

Set Up Your Chromecast Device

Before you can cast a slideshow, you need to set up your Chromecast device. Here are the steps:

  1. Plug the Chromecast into your TV’s HDMI port and connect the power adapter to a wall outlet or USB port on your TV.
  2. Download the Google Home app on your phone or tablet (available for Android and iOS).
  3. Open the app and select “Set Up Device.” Follow the on-screen prompts to connect your Chromecast to your WiFi network.

Once connected, you’ll see your Chromecast listed as an available device in the Google Home app.

Cast from Your Android Device

Casting a slideshow from an Android phone or tablet is straightforward using the Google Photos app:

  1. Open the Google Photos app and select an album or group of photos to cast.
  2. Tap the Cast icon in the top toolbar (it looks like a WiFi symbol).
  3. Select your Chromecast device from the list.
  4. The selected photos will immediately start displaying in a slideshow on your TV!

Cast from an iPhone or iPad

To cast a slideshow from an iOS device:

  1. Download a third party casting app like Google Photos or Photo Cast.
  2. Open the app and select “Cast” or the Chromecast icon.
  3. Choose your Chromecast device and select an album or photos to display.
  4. The slideshow will begin playing automatically on your TV.

Cast from a Windows PC

To cast from a Windows computer, you can use the Chrome browser:

  1. Open Chrome and go to photos.google.com.
  2. Sign into your Google account if prompted.
  3. Click the 3-dot menu > Cast. Choose your Chromecast device.
  4. Open a photo album and click the 3-dot menu again > Start Slideshow.
  5. The slideshow will now display the photos on your TV!

Cast from a Mac

To cast photos on a Mac:

  1. Make sure your Mac and Chromecast are connected to the same WiFi network.
  2. Open the Google Photos app and select an album or group of photos to cast.
  3. Click the Cast button and choose your Chromecast device.
  4. The photos will immediately start displaying as a slideshow on your TV.

Customize Your Slideshow

Once you’ve started casting a slideshow from any device, you have several options to customize how the photos display:

  • Rearrange individual photos – Simply drag and drop photos within the slideshow in your Google Photos app to reorder them. The changes sync instantly on your TV.
  • Adjust speed – In the Google Home app, under your Chromecast settings, choose a faster or slower speed for the transitions between slides.
  • Add captions/locations – Open Google Photos online to add captions, locations, or other details to your photos that will also display during the slideshow.
  • Add background music – Play music or a soundtrack on your phone or computer while casting the slideshow for some background ambiance.
