Apple’s iMessage service allows users to easily send and receive money through the Apple Cash system. This convenient feature enables you to quickly pay friends, family, and others right in the Messages app on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch.

Requirements
To use the Apple Cash money transfer system in iMessage, you need:
- An eligible device running the latest iOS, iPadOS, or watchOS
- iMessage enabled
- Two-factor authentication enabled for your Apple ID
- To be signed in to iCloud on all devices with the same Apple ID
- To be located in the United States
- To be at least 18 years old
Setting Up Apple Cash
To set up Apple Cash:
- Open the Wallet app and tap the Apple Cash card
- Tap “Set Up Now” and follow the on-screen prompts
- Add a supported debit card and verify your identity
Once set up, the Apple Cash card will appear in your Wallet app. This is where you can view your balance, transaction history, transfer money to your bank, and more.
Sending Money
To send money with Apple Cash:
In Messages:
- Open a Messages conversation
- Tap the App Store icon
- Tap Apple Cash
- Enter the payment amount
- Tap Pay
- Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode
In Wallet:
- Tap the Apple Cash card
- Tap “Send”
- Enter the recipient and amount
- Tap “Send”
- Authenticate
You can send between $1 and $10,000 per message, up to $20,000 over 7 days. If you don’t have enough Apple Cash funds, the remainder will be paid from a debit card in your Wallet.
Requesting Money
To request money from someone:
In Messages:
- Open a Messages conversation
- Tap the App Store icon
- Tap Apple Cash
- Enter the amount
- Tap Request
In Wallet:
- Tap the Apple Cash card
- Tap “Request”
- Enter the recipient and amount
- Tap “Request”
The recipient will receive the request and can tap “Pay” to send you money.
Receiving Money
When someone sends you money, you’ll receive a message that you’ve received an Apple Cash payment.
To accept the money:
- Open the message
- Tap “Accept”
- Follow the prompts
The money will be automatically added to your Apple Cash card. You can then spend it, transfer it to your bank, and more.
By default, received payments are automatically accepted. You can disable this in Wallet settings.
Spending Apple Cash Funds
You can use the money in your Apple Cash account to:
- Make purchases using Apple Pay in stores, apps, and on supported websites
- Transfer funds to your bank account or eligible debit cards
- Pay down your Apple Card balance
- Send money to others
So Apple Cash lets you easily hold funds, spend them, and transfer money to friends and family all through the Messages and Wallet apps on your Apple devices.
