When to Use Safe Mode
Here are some common situations where booting into Safe Mode can help:

- You want to restore your PS4 back to factory default settings
- The system software needs to be updated or reinstalled
How to Enter Safe Mode
- Make sure your PS4 is completely powered off
- Press and hold the power button on the front of the console
- Listen for two beeps – the second beep should sound about 7 seconds after the first
- Once you hear the second beep, release the power button
- Your PS4 will now boot up in Safe Mode
Important: You’ll need to connect your PS4 controller directly to the console using a USB cable since wireless connections are disabled in Safe Mode.
Safe Mode Options
When in Safe Mode, you’ll see a menu with various options:
- Restart System – Exit Safe Mode and restart normally
- Change Resolution – Changes display resolution to 480p
