How to Update Your Custom Status Message Shown in Discord App

Discord allows users to set a custom status message that is displayed below your username. This can be used to indicate your current activity, share an interesting quote, or just add some personality to your profile. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to update your custom status message in the Discord app.

Setting a Custom Status on Desktop

  1. Click on your profile picture in the bottom left corner of the Discord app.
  2. In the menu that pops up, click on “Set a custom status” at the bottom.
  3. A text box will appear where you can enter your custom status message. This can be up to 128 characters.
  4. You can also add an emoji next to your status message by clicking on the emoji icon.
  5. Select when you want your custom status to expire from the “Clear After” drop down menu. You can set it to clear after 30 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours or 1 day. Select “Don’t clear” if you don’t want it to automatically expire.
  6. Click “Save” once you are happy with your status message.

Your custom message should now display below your username whenever you are using Discord.

Updating an Existing Custom Status

If you already have a custom status set and you want to update it:

  1. Click on your profile picture again and select “Set a custom status” from the menu.
  2. Your existing custom status will be shown in the text box. Edit the message as required.
  3. You can change the emoji or expiration period as well if needed.
  4. Click “Save” once done to update your custom status.

Clearing a Custom Status

To remove your custom status:

  1. Click on your profile picture in Discord.
  2. In the menu, click on the “X” icon next to your custom status text to delete it.

Your status will revert back to your online status without any custom message.

Adding a Custom Status on Mobile

You can also set, edit or remove a custom status in the Discord mobile app:

  1. Tap on your profile picture in the bottom right corner.
  2. Tap on “Set Status” in the menu.
  3. Tap on “Set a custom status”.
  4. Type your status message in the text box and add an emoji if needed.
  5. Select when you want the status to expire.
  6. Tap “Save” when done.

Follow the same steps to update or remove your existing custom status on mobile.

Tips for Setting Your Status

  • Use your custom status to indicate your current activity like gaming, studying, working etc.
  • Change your status message periodically to keep it relevant.
  • Add relevant emojis to match your status message.

  • If adding multiple lines, use Shift+Enter to create a new line.
