Setting a Custom Status on Desktop
- Click on your profile picture in the bottom left corner of the Discord app.
- In the menu that pops up, click on “Set a custom status” at the bottom.
- A text box will appear where you can enter your custom status message. This can be up to 128 characters.
- You can also add an emoji next to your status message by clicking on the emoji icon.
- Select when you want your custom status to expire from the “Clear After” drop down menu. You can set it to clear after 30 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours or 1 day. Select “Don’t clear” if you don’t want it to automatically expire.
- Click “Save” once you are happy with your status message.
Your custom message should now display below your username whenever you are using Discord.
Updating an Existing Custom Status
If you already have a custom status set and you want to update it:
- Click on your profile picture again and select “Set a custom status” from the menu.
- Your existing custom status will be shown in the text box. Edit the message as required.
- You can change the emoji or expiration period as well if needed.
- Click “Save” once done to update your custom status.
Clearing a Custom Status
To remove your custom status:
- Click on your profile picture in Discord.
- In the menu, click on the “X” icon next to your custom status text to delete it.
Your status will revert back to your online status without any custom message.

You can also set, edit or remove a custom status in the Discord mobile app:
- Tap on your profile picture in the bottom right corner.
