Driving trucks for long hours can be tiring in Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2). At some point, you’ll need to take a rest break to regain your energy. The game allows you to sleep in designated parking areas marked with a blue bed icon, usually next to hotels or roads. But did you know you can also take a power nap in your own garage?

Finding a Place to Sleep in ETS2
When your driver starts feeling drowsy, you’ll get notifications like yawning sounds and the screen edges darkening. This is a sign you need to stop and rest soon. If you ignore the warnings, your driver can fall asleep while driving!
To avoid this dangerous situation, start looking for a place to catch some z’s as soon as you get the first notification. In ETS2, you can sleep in these locations:
- Designated Parking Areas – These roadside rest stops have a blue bed icon on the map and world. Park inside the marked sleeping spot.
- Hotels – Hotels also have parking lots where you can sleep, usually easier to maneuver into.
- Your Own Garages – Make your way to one of your company garages in a city to sleep there.
Once you park at one of these sleeping spots:
- Turn off your engine by pressing E.
- Put your driver to sleep by pressing Enter.
This will make your driver sleep for 8 hours before automatically waking up refreshed and ready to get back on the road.
Sleeping in Your Company Garages
As your company grows in ETS2, you can purchase garages in cities across Europe. These serve as headquarters for your company drivers in each city.
An added benefit of owning garages is being able to have your own driver take power naps there when you’re in the area. Sleeping in your garages is faster, cheaper, and more convenient than finding a public hotel parking area.
Here are some tips on taking a snooze session in your ETS2 garages:
- Approach without a Trailer – You can only sleep inside when bobtailing (no trailer attached). Detach any cargo trailer before entering your garage.
- Enter from the Road – The sleep trigger is usually on the roadside garage entrance. Backing in from the inside doesn’t work.
- Park in the Right Spot – There is only one specific spot that activates the sleep prompt inside garages. This is usually on the left side when facing the doors.
- Press E then Enter – As usual, turn off engine then put driver to sleep. Enjoy your 8-hour power nap!
- Avoid Traffic Jams – Other AI drivers can block the garage entrance and prevent you from entering. Wait until the way is clear before pulling in.
Why Sleeping is Important
Resting your driver regularly in ETS2 provides several gameplay benefits:
- Resets Fatigue – Sleeping resets your driver’s fatigue level back to normal.
- Makes Deliveries – You can’t complete deliveries if your driver falls asleep on the job.
- Avoids Accidents – Drowsy drivers are dangerous drivers. Rest to avoid crashing your truck.
- Planning Route – Take sleep times into account when plotting navigation to make delivery deadlines.
Ignoring sleep notifications for too long can make your driver fall asleep automatically. This fails the delivery job and respawns your truck back at the last garage. Make sure to stop and take naps at garages along your route!
Useful Sleeping Tips
Here are some extra pointers on sleeping mechanics in ETS2:
- Each rest period makes your driver sleep for exactly 8 hours. Naps are all-or-nothing.
- Look for a place to park once you get the first yawn notification for best timing.
- You can sleep multiple times on long haul jobs to split up the drive time.
- Edit jobs on the map to set waypoints to plan sleep stops at your garages.
- Upgrade your trucks for beds and other sleeping accessories to rest in more comfort!
Driving sleep-deprived is as dangerous in Euro Truck Simulator 2 as it is in real life. Make sure to stop and take regular breaks at rest areas, hotels, or your own company garages. Your trucking business depends on having well-rested drivers!
