There are a few different ways to copy a table in Notion:
Table of Contents
Method 1: Duplicate the Table
- Find the table you want to copy in the left sidebar menu.
- Click the three dots next to the table name and select “Duplicate”.
- This will create an exact copy of the table right below the original.
Method 2: Copy as Markdown
- Open the table you want to copy.
- Click the icon in the top right corner of the table.
- Select “Copy as Markdown”.
- This will copy the Markdown formatted version of the table that you can paste elsewhere.
Method 3: Copy Link to Table
- Open the table you want to copy
- Click the icon in the top right corner.
- Select “Copy link to table”.
- This copies a link to that table that you can share with others.
Turning a Table into a Database
If your table grows in size and complexity, you may want to turn it into a full Notion database to unlock more features.
To do this:
- Open the simple table.
- Click the three dots in the top right corner.
- Select “Turn into database”.
This will convert the table into a flexible, feature-rich Notion database while preserving all the existing data.
When to Use Simple Tables vs Databases
- Use simple tables for basic data that doesn’t need complex relationships or views. They are great for quick reference tables.
- Use databases when you need features like filtered views, linked relations, and automatic timestamps. Databases can scale better for large, complex data.
