How to Customize Your Server Avatar and Background in Discord App

Discord has become one of the most popular communication platforms, especially among gamers and online communities. With customizable avatars and backgrounds, you can give your Discord server a unique brand identity that resonates with your members.

Why Customize Your Discord Server?

Customizing your Discord server avatar and background has several key benefits:

  • Stand out: With so many Discord servers out there, having a customized avatar and background makes your server more distinctive and memorable. This helps attract new members.
  • Strengthen brand identity: Matching your avatar and background to your server’s theme or purpose helps establish cohesive branding that members can recognize.
  • Looks more professional: A customized Discord server gives the impression that time and thought has been put into its creation, lending it more credibility.
  • More engaging experience: Interesting visuals make your server more fun and inviting for members to participate in.

Step 1: Change Your Server Avatar

Your server avatar appears next to your server name and represents your community. Here’s how to change it:

On Desktop

  1. Click the dropdown menu next to your server name.
  2. Select Server Settings.
  3. Click Change Icon in the overview section.
  4. Upload or select a new image.

Use an avatar that fits your server theme or brand. For example, a gaming server could use a game character while a food server may prefer a fruit or vegetable icon.

The invite splash appears when new members join your server. To customize it:

  1. Go to Server Settings > Overview
  2. Scroll down and upload an image under Invite Splash
  3. Click Save Changes

The image will now display when new members accept invite links to your server.

Step 3: Change the Background

Changing your background is only available to boosted servers. Here’s how to do it:

Pro Tips for Customization

  • Use a banner, icons, emojis, and roles that align to your server’s purpose.
  • Take inspiration from brand style guides or other Discord servers, but give your server its own unique touch.
  • Experiment with different visuals until you find ones that feel right. Get feedback from members.
  • Change it up occasionally to keep things fresh, like swapping avatars for holidays.
