How to Enable or Disable Two-Factor Authentication Security on Discord Account

To enable two-factor authentication on Discord:

  1. Go to User Settings > My Account and click “Enable Two-Factor Auth”
  2. Enter your Discord password
  3. Open an authenticator app on your phone (e.g. Authy, Google Authenticator)
  4. Scan the QR code shown on the Discord website
  5. Enter the 6-digit code from the authenticator app into Discord
  6. Discord will confirm that 2FA is now enabled

You should also save the backup codes Discord provides in case you lose access to your authenticator app.

Disabling 2FA

To disable two-factor authentication:

  1. Go to User Settings > My Account and click “Remove 2FA”
  2. Enter either your 6-digit authentication code or one of your 8-digit backup codes
  3. Confirm that you want to disable 2FA

Without access to authentication codes or backup codes, there is no way to disable 2FA and you will need to contact Discord support or create a new account.

Enabling 2FA adds an extra layer of security to help prevent unauthorized access. However, Discord’s 2FA implementation has some weaknesses, like backup codes not working to re-enable 2FA if it gets disabled. Overall though, having 2FA enabled is still recommended to keep your Discord account secure.
