How to Join Online Meetings Hosted in Microsoft Teams Apps

Microsoft Teams is a popular communication and collaboration platform that allows users to chat, meet, call, and collaborate all in one place. One of the key features of Teams is the ability to easily set up and join online meetings.

Whether you need to meet with your team members for a quick catch-up or host larger events like webinars and conferences, Teams makes it simple to connect virtually. In this guide, we’ll walk through the various ways you can join online meetings in Microsoft Teams.

Prerequisites

To join Teams meetings, you’ll need:

  • A device with internet access
  • The Teams desktop or mobile app installed (optional). You can join from a web browser without installing Teams.
  • Meeting invite link or details like Meeting ID and passcode

Joining from the Teams App

The Teams app provides the best meeting experience with access to all features. Follow these steps:

From a Meeting Invite

  1. Open the meeting invite in the Teams app
  2. Click “Join Microsoft Teams Meeting”
  3. Allow access to mic/camera if prompted
  4. Click “Join now” once ready

From the Calendar Tab

  1. Open the Calendar tab in Teams

Joining from a Web Browser

Don’t have the Teams app? You can still join meetings right from your web browser.

From a Meeting Link

  1. Click on the meeting link in the invite
  2. Select “Continue on this browser”
  3. Enter your name and click “Join now”
  4. Allow mic/camera access if prompted

By Meeting ID

  1. Go to Microsoft Teams Meeting by ID
  2. Enter Meeting ID and Passcode
  3. Enter your name and click “Join now”
  4. Allow device access when prompted

Joining from a Mobile Device

Follow these steps to join meetings on your mobile device:

Install the Teams Mobile App

  1. Open meeting invite and tap the join link
  2. Tap “Get Teams” to install the app from your app store
  3. Open the installed Teams app and tap the join link again

Join as a Guest

  1. Open the meeting link in your mobile browser
  2. Choose “Join as a guest” when prompted
  3. Enter your name and tap “Join meeting”

Joining Options for External Guests

If you don’t have access to Teams, meeting organizers can still invite you. As a guest, you can join from a web browser or mobile device.

From a browser, click the join link and select “Continue on this browser”. On mobile, open the join link and choose “Join as a guest”.

Guests have limited access to Teams meeting features compared to signed-in users. But you can still join the meeting, turn on your mic/camera, and participate.
