How to Make a Gallery Smaller in Notion

Notion is a popular productivity app that allows users to create customizable databases, wikis, documents and more. One useful feature in Notion is the gallery view, which displays database entries visually in a grid layout. However, sometimes you may want to adjust the size of cards in your Notion gallery to take up less space. Here are some tips for making your Notion gallery smaller.

Access Gallery View Properties

To start adjusting your gallery size, you first need to access the properties menu:

  1. Hover over the top right corner of your gallery view and click on the ... icon
  2. Select Properties from the dropdown menu

This will open up the properties sidebar where you can customize your gallery view.

Change Card Size

Under the Card Preview section in Properties, there is a Card Size dropdown menu. The options here allow you to set how much space each card takes up:

  • Small: More compact view with small card sizes
  • Medium: Default card size

  1. Go back to Properties

Filter Cards

  1. Click on the Filters tab in your gallery’s properties sidebar
  2. Click Add filter

Use Board View

In some cases, switching your gallery to a board view may save more space. Board views only show card titles by default in a Pinterest-style layout.

To change to a board view:

  1. Hover over the gallery name
  2. Click the dropdown arrow
  3. Select Board

Board views take up less room than gallery views, while still allowing you to toggle to gallery when needed.

Remove Extra Properties

If your gallery cards show more data than needed, you can remove excess properties:

  1. Go back into your gallery Properties
  2. Click on Visible properties
  3. Uncheck any unnecessary properties
  4. Click Apply

This will clean up your gallery card appearance showing only the essentials.
