How to Switch Between Multiple Google Accounts on Android

Having multiple Google accounts on your Android device can be very useful. You may have separate accounts for personal and work use, or multiple personal accounts. However, constantly logging in and out of accounts can be a hassle. Luckily, Android makes it easy to add and switch between multiple Google accounts.

Add a Google Account to Your Device

  1. Open Settings and tap Accounts.
  2. Tap Add account > Google.
  3. Enter your email address and tap Next.
  4. Enter your password and tap Next.
  5. Accept the Terms of Service and tap Next.
  6. Choose whether to back up your phone’s apps, data and settings. Tap Next.
  7. Your account is now added. Apps like Gmail, Contacts and Calendar will start syncing data from this account.

Repeat steps 2-7 to add more Google accounts.

Switch Google Accounts Within Apps

Many Google apps allow you to easily switch accounts:

  • Gmail – Tap your profile icon > Tap the account you want to switch to
  • YouTube – Tap your profile icon > Tap Switch account > Choose account
  • Google Play Store – Tap your profile icon > Tap your email > Choose account

Change Default Google Account

Your default account is the one used by default in all apps. To change it:

  4. Repeat step 2 and 3 to remove other accounts, except the one you want as default.
  5. Add back the removed accounts one by one. The first account added becomes the new default account.

Use Multiple Accounts Simultaneously

Some Google apps allow using multiple accounts simultaneously:

  • Gmail – From the side menu, tap All inboxes to view emails from all accounts together.
  • Google Calendar – Open the side menu > Tap Add other account > Add the account.
  • Google Contacts – Tap Side menu > Contacts to display > Tick all accounts.

This way you can access data from multiple accounts without constantly switching.

Use Chrome Profiles

Chrome browser allows you to create separate profiles to keep Google accounts separate:

  1. Open Chrome > Tap your profile icon.
  2. Tap Add to create a new profile.
  3. Sign in to a Google account for that profile.
  4. Repeat to add more profiles connected to different accounts.
  5. To switch accounts, tap your profile icon and select a profile.

Delete a Google Account

To remove an account:

  1. Go to Settings > Accounts.
  2. Tap the account.
  3. Tap REMOVE ACCOUNT.

This will delete the account and all synced data like Gmail, Contacts etc.
