What is Smooth Stone?
Smooth stone is a building block made by smelting regular stone. It has a uniform gray texture without any cracks, giving it a clean, polished look.
Smooth stone blocks have the same blast resistance as regular stone. However, they cannot be used as a substitute for stone in crafting recipes.
Benefits of Smooth Stone:
- Uniform look makes builds look modern and sleek
- Goes well with many other blocks like stone bricks, iron blocks, etc.
- Resistant to explosions like regular stone
- Can be used to craft smooth stone slabs and blast furnaces
How to Get Smooth Stone
Crafting smooth stone is a simple two-step process:
- Smelt cobblestone in a furnace to get regular stone
- Smelt the regular stone to get smooth stone
What You’ll Need
- Furnace
- Cobblestone
- Fuel (coal, wood, etc.)
Step-by-Step Process:
- Craft a furnace if you don’t already have one. Place 8 cobblestone in a square shape (leaving the center block empty) in a crafting table.
- Mine cobblestone underground if you don’t have any in your inventory. You’ll need at least 1 cobblestone per smooth stone you want to craft.
- Fuel your furnace with coal, wood planks, etc.
- Smelt cobblestone to get regular stone. Place cobblestone and fuel in the input slots of the furnace.
- Smelt regular stone to get smooth stone. Take the regular stone you just got and smelt it again with more fuel.
Each regular stone block smelted will give you 1 smooth stone block. Repeat as needed to amass the desired amount of smooth stone.
What to Craft with Smooth Stone
Smooth stone blocks have great potential for modern builds but have limited crafting usage. Here are some of the things you can craft using smooth stone:
Smooth Stone Slabs
Place 3 smooth stones horizontally in a crafting table to get 6 smooth stone slabs. These slab blocks are great for texturing floors and roofs.
Blast Furnace
A blast furnace smelts ores faster than a regular furnace. Craft one by placing 3 smooth stone, 5 iron ingots, and 1 furnace in a crafting grid.
Decorative Blocks
Smooth stone bricks, walls, and pillars can make for great decor. Use them for texturing modern builds.
Smooth Stone Design Ideas
Here are some builds where smooth stone can make an excellent material choice:
- Modern houses, towers, and skyscrapers
- Industrial warehouses and factories
- Sleek furniture like kitchen counters and tables
- Futuristic bunkers and underground bases
- Modern aqueducts, dams, bridges
- Simple medieval cottages and huts
- Textures for stone brick builds
Combine smooth stone with materials like stone bricks, iron blocks, concrete, gray-colored terracotta, and glass for best results. Quartz and sea lanterns also pair exceptionally well with smooth stone.
Tips When Using Smooth Stone
Follow these tips to efficiently use smooth stone in your Minecraft builds:
- Use smooth stone slabs on floors, ceilings, roofs to give a clean finish
- Mix with stone brick variants to add detail
- Use stairs and walls for texturing
- Craft blast furnaces to quickly smelt ores
- Combine with concrete, iron blocks, glass
- Don’t waste silk touch pickaxes on it; regular pickaxes work fine
And that’s everything you need to know about crafting and using smooth stone in Minecraft! With its versatile applications for modern builds, smooth stone can take your constructions to the next level.
