Snapchat Support – How to Change and Update Phone Number on Account

Snapchat is a popular social media app that allows users to send photo and video messages that disappear after being viewed. Snapchat uses your phone number as part of the account setup process and to help you find friends. If you get a new phone number, you’ll need to update it in Snapchat so your account continues working properly. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to change your phone number on Snapchat.

Remove Your Old Phone Number from Your Snapchat Account

Before adding your new phone number, you first need to remove the old one from your Snapchat account:

  1. Open the Snapchat app and tap your Bitmoji or profile icon in the top left corner
  2. Tap the Settings gear icon in the top right
  3. Scroll down and tap Mobile Number
  4. Tap Remove Mobile Number and confirm when prompted

Removing the old number will immediately log you out of your Snapchat account on that device.

Add Your New Phone Number to Snapchat

Once your old phone number is removed, you can add the new one while logged out:

  1. From the login screen, tap Create New Account
  2. Enter your new phone number when prompted
  3. Tap Continue and enter the verification code sent via SMS text message
  4. After your number is verified, login with your existing username and password

Your new phone number will then be associated with your account.

Alternative: Change Number While Logged In

You can also change your phone number even while logged into your Snapchat account:

  1. Tap your Bitmoji or profile icon
  2. Tap the Settings gear icon
  3. Tap Mobile Number
  4. Tap Change Number
  5. Enter your new phone number and tap Continue
  6. Enter the verification code texted to your new number
  7. Tap Verify to complete the change

This will change your account’s phone number instantly without having to log out.

Update Recovery Email Address

After changing your number, also update your recovery email address if needed:

  1. In Settings, tap Email
  2. Enter a new email address and tap Continue
  3. Check the email inbox and confirm the address change link

Having a current recovery email is important if you ever lose access to your account.

Contact Snapchat Support

If you encounter any issues changing your phone number or account access, you can contact Snapchat support through the app:

  1. Go to your Snapchat Settings
  2. Scroll down and tap Support
  3. Tap I Need More Help to contact the Snapchat support team

Be prepared to provide details about your account and phone number change issues.

Log Out on Old Device

Once you update your phone number, remember to log out of Snapchat on your old device to complete the transition:

  1. Open Snapchat and tap your Bitmoji or profile icon
  2. Tap the Settings gear icon
  3. Scroll down and tap Log Out to sign out of your account

This will disconnect the old phone number from your account.
