On Outlook.com, go to Settings > View all Outlook settings > General > Privacy and data. Under External images, select “Always use Outlook service to load images”. This routes images through Outlook’s proxy servers.
- Use browser extensions like Trocker or Ugly Email
These will block tracking pixels and alert you to their presence. - On mobile apps like iOS Mail, disable “Load Remote Images” under Settings.
- Consider using a VPN
While it can’t directly block images, it can hide your IP address from the trackers.
The most effective method is to disable automatic image downloads across all Outlook platforms. This does mean you have to manually enable images, but avoids trackers. Extensions provide extra protection.
To be fully secure, also enable 2-factor authentication, use strong passwords, keep software updated, and consider encrypted email services like ProtonMail if communicating highly sensitive information.
