Amazon Echo Buds are wireless Bluetooth earbuds that allow you to access Alexa and other voice assistants on the go. Before you can start using your Echo Buds for music, calls, getting directions and more, you need to connect and pair them properly. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to set up your Echo Buds.

Download the Alexa App
The first step is to download the Alexa app on your mobile device if you don’t already have it installed. The Alexa app allows you to manage your Echo Buds and is necessary for the initial setup. You can find the Alexa app on the App Store for iOS devices and the Google Play Store for Android devices.
Open the Case and Initiate Pairing Mode
Once you have the Alexa app installed, open the case for your Echo Buds and make sure the earbuds are inside. Press and hold the pairing button on the case for 3 seconds until the status light starts flashing blue. This puts the Echo Buds into pairing mode.
Select the Echo Buds in the Alexa App
Open the Alexa app and select “Add Device” from the menu. You should see the option to add Echo Buds. Select that and the app will search and find your Echo Buds that are in pairing mode. Tap to connect to your Echo Buds.
Follow On-Screen Setup Instructions
The Alexa app will have you go through some additional setup screens for the Echo Buds including:
- Connecting to your Amazon account
- Allowing access to contacts and media
- Downloading the latest firmware update
- Testing the tap gestures
- Choosing the ear tip size
Follow all the on-screen prompts to finish the setup process.
Connect Echo Buds to a Bluetooth Device
In addition to connecting your Echo Buds to the Alexa app, you can also pair them with other Bluetooth devices like your phone, tablet or laptop. To initiate pairing mode, press and hold the button on the Echo Buds case for 3 seconds until the light flashes blue. Then go into your device’s Bluetooth settings and select the “Echo Buds” option that pops up to connect them.
Customize the Controls
Once your Echo Buds are fully set up, you can customize the on-ear tap controls to your preferences. Open the Alexa app and go to Devices > Echo Buds > Tap Controls. From here you can assign different tap gestures to various actions like switching noise modes, launching voice assistants, controlling media playback and more. Get your controls set up just the way you want.
Update Firmware
Be sure to keep the firmware on your Echo Buds up-to-date. Major firmware updates can improve performance and fix issues. Open the Alexa app, go to Devices > Echo Buds > About to check your current firmware version and see if any updates are available. Installing updates only takes a few minutes.
And that’s it! With those steps completed, your Echo Buds will be ready to start using. You can ask Alexa questions, get help with everyday tasks, listen to music and podcasts, take calls, and more. Enjoy having Alexa by your side no matter where you go with Amazon Echo Buds!
