Fans are an essential tool for traversing the vast world of Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. With my 20 years of experience playing Zelda games, I will provide everything you need to know about crafting fans to enhance your journey.

Why Fans Are Important
Fans allow you to:
- Propel rafts and boats to quickly cross bodies of water
- Give your glider an extra boost when caught in an updraft
- Push minecarts along tracks
- Deflect enemy projectiles
- Extinguish fires
- Manipulate wind to solve puzzles
Having the right fan for the situation can make all the difference, so it’s important to understand the different types available.
Korok Frond Fans
The most basic type of fan is crafted by fusing a tree branch and Korok Frond using Link’s Fuse ability.
- Tree branches can be found all over Hyrule, especially near wooded areas
- Korok Fronds are most common in dense forests like the Lost Woods. I recommend checking near the In-Isa Shrine.
This simple fan is perfect for pushing your sailboat or spreading fire to solve puzzles. It can also slightly deflect enemy projectiles. However, it has limited uses compared to other fans.
Zonai Device Fans
For more heavy duty fans, hunt for Zonai Devices in floating capsules scattered across the sky islands. These fans have longer lasting batteries and more power.
Zonai Device Fans are great for propelling minecarts, speeding up rafts, and boosting your glider. The extra gust can also blow lightweight enemies off cliffs or deflect arrows.
Make sure to stock up on Zonai Charges to repower dead fans!

Weapon Fusion Fans
You can also fuse fans directly onto weapons using Link’s Fuse ability. Great for melee fighters!
- Fuse a Korok Frond or any flat object like a plank, door, or even a President Hudson cutout!
- Every fan strike will blow enemies backwards, potentially knocking them off ledges
- The fans deflect arrows shot at Link
Flat, wide objects make the best fans for fusion. And don’t forget to experiment on your own!
Pro Tips
- Rotate fans to blow the direction you want
- Carry spare Zonai Charges to repower dead fans
- Fuse fans onto shields to block AND deflect projectiles
- Use multiple fans to boost speed and power
- Try fusing elemental items like fireflies to add effects
Now that you’re a master of crafting fans, you’ll be prepared to take on any challenges in Tears of Kingdom! Let the creative fun begin!
