How To Delete Animated Elements in Canva Design Tool

Canva is a popular graphic design platform that makes it easy for anyone to create professional-looking designs. One of the features that sets Canva apart is its animation tool, which allows you to add animated elements to your designs with just a few clicks.

However, you may find yourself wanting to remove an animation you’ve added. Whether you’ve changed your mind or the animation isn’t working as intended, deleting animations in Canva is a straightforward process.

As a graphic designer with over 10 years of experience, including extensive use of Canva, here is my guide on how to delete animated elements in Canva.

Selecting the Animated Element

The first step to removing an animation is selecting the element you want to edit.

If you animated a specific graphic, text box, shape, or other element, simply click on that item to select it. A bounding box with handles will appear around the selected element.

If you applied animation to the entire page, you can select the page by clicking anywhere on the blank background area.

Accessing the Animation Panel

With the animated element selected, look at the toolbar at the top of the editing screen. Click on the “Animate” tab in the toolbar.

This will open up the animation panel on the left side of the screen. All animation options, settings, and controls can be accessed here.

Removing the Animation

In the animation panel, you will see animation presets you can apply. To remove animation, click on the “None” option at the very top of this panel.

The animation will immediately be deleted from the selected element. The element will revert to its original static appearance.

If you have animated multiple elements and want to remove all animations, you will need to select and delete animations one element at a time using this process.

Alternative: Adjusting Animation Settings

Instead of fully removing an animation, consider customizing it to better suit your needs. The animation panel gives you advanced controls over animation settings.

You can change the animation style, adjust timing and speed, set start/end triggers, and more. Tweaking these settings can help improve animations instead of deleting them entirely.

Recovering Deleted Animations

If you delete an animation by accident or change your mind later on, you may be able to recover it using Canva’s revision history feature.

Click on the “File” menu and select “Revisions” to view a list of saved versions of your design. You can preview different revisions and restore an older version if needed.

However, revision history is only available with Canva Pro and Canva for Enterprise accounts. Revision history can also be limited depending on your plan.

Tips for Working With Animations in Canva

Here are some additional tips to help you work effectively with animations in Canva:

  • Preview animations frequently – It’s easy to over-animate designs in Canva. Frequently preview your work to avoid this.
  • Mind mobile performance – Too many animations can hurt performance on mobile. Keep mobile optimization in mind.
  • Use subtle, purposeful animations – Animations work best when subtle and meaningful, not just decorative.
  • Learn keyboard shortcuts – Keyboard shortcuts for selecting and deleting speed up your workflow.

With this guide, you should now feel comfortable deleting unwanted animations from your Canva projects. Let me know if you have any other questions!
