How to Equip and Trigger Character Quips in Apex Legends

As a long-time Apex Legends player with over 500 hours logged, I’m excited to share my expertise on equipping and triggering character quips in this popular battle royale game.

What are Quips in Apex Legends?

Quips are short voice lines that Legends can say during matches. There are two main types of quips:

  • Intro Quips: Played when someone inspects your profile or if you’re made the Champion squad. These quips show off your personality.
  • Kill Quips: Played after you eliminate an enemy. These quips can taunt your defeated opponent.

Equipping quips is a great way to customize your Legend and show off your style. The game has over 300 quips spread across all Legends, from iconic catchphrases to hilarious taunts.

How to Equip Quips

Equipping quips is simple:

  1. Open Apex Legends and select the Legends tab from the main menu
  2. Choose the Legend you want to customize
  3. Select the Intro Quip or Kill Quip section
  4. Click on the quip you want to equip

You’ll know the quip is selected when you see the check mark icon next to it. Quips marked with a lock are not yet owned.

How to Unlock More Quips

You start Apex Legends with 2 intro quips and 2 kill quips per Legend. To unlock more:

  • Get quips in Apex Packs – quips have a chance to drop randomly
  • Craft quips with Crafting Metals in the in-game store
  • Purchase quip sets in the Special Offers store section

Legend and event exclusive quips can also be unlocked during special events.

How to Trigger Equipped Quips

Intro quips will play automatically when you are the Champion squad or when other players inspect you.

To trigger a kill quip, eliminate an enemy player and your equipped quip will play automatically.

You can also manually trigger quips using the quip wheel. On PC, hold Z by default to open the wheel and click the quip you want.

Tips for Using Quips

  • Change quips often to keep your style fresh
  • Mix intimidating quips with funny ones to show off your personality
  • Time quips well – a perfectly timed quip after an intense fight is very satisfying!
