How to Forward and Redirect Messages in Signal Messenger App

Signal is a popular secure messaging app that offers end-to-end encryption. It has options to forward and redirect messages to other contacts, which can be useful for sharing information.

Forwarding Messages

Forwarding a message in Signal allows you to send a received message to another contact or group. Here are the steps:

  • On Android/iOS:
  • Open the chat with the message you want to forward.
  • Tap and hold the message bubble.
  • Tap Forward.
  • Select the contact(s) to forward the message to.
  • Tap the send icon to forward the message.
  • On Desktop:
  • Open the chat with the message.
  • Hover over the message and click the three dots icon.
  • Click Forward.
  • Select up to five chats to forward to.
  • Click Next.
  • Modify the message if needed.
  • Click Send.

You can forward multiple messages at once by selecting multiple messages before forwarding.

Redirecting Messages with Linked Devices

Signal has a linked devices feature that allows you to redirect messages from one device to another. This keeps all your messages in sync across devices.

Here’s how to set it up:

  • On your main device, go to Settings > Linked Devices.
  • Tap Add New Device.
  • On your secondary device, go to Settings > Linked Devices.
  • Tap Link New Device.
  • Scan the QR code on your main device using your secondary device.

Once linked, all messages will be redirected and synced across both devices automatically.

Replying from Secondary Devices

With linked devices, you can view messages sent to your main device on your secondary devices but can’t reply by default.

To enable replies:

  • Go to Settings > Linked Devices on your main device.
  • Tap Enable Replies.

Now you can reply to messages from your secondary devices. The recipient will see the replies coming from your main device number.

Using Signal as Default SMS App

On Android, Signal can be set as the default SMS app. This allows Signal to redirect all SMS messages into the app.

To enable:

  • Go to Settings > SMS & MMS.
  • Toggle on Use as Default SMS App.

Now all SMS will be visible in Signal, allowing you to use Signal’s encryption and features for non-Signal contacts.
