Locating Mewtwo Raids
The key to battling Mewtwo is to keep an eye out for when it appears as a raid boss.
- Check the in-game news section regularly for announcements of upcoming Mewtwo raids. These legendary raids are time-limited events that may last a few weeks.
- Join local Pokémon GO communities on platforms like Discord or Facebook to get notifications of Mewtwo sightings in your area. Coordinate with others to take down the raid boss.
- Use raid scanners and tracker maps that pinpoint rare raids across town. But be responsible and don’t trespass on private property.
Once a Mewtwo raid is located, gather a team of at least 5 high-level players before heading to the gym. Lower-level trainers will timeout before defeating it.
Countering Mewtwo Effectively
As a pure Psychic-type, Mewtwo is vulnerable to Dark, Ghost and Bug attacks. Here are the top counters I recommend:
Dark Types
- Tyranitar with Bite + Crunch
- Hydreigon with Bite + Dark Pulse
- Darkrai with Snarl + Dark Pulse
- Weavile with Snarl + Foul Play
Ghost Types
- Giratina (Origin) with Shadow Claw + Shadow Ball
- Gengar with Shadow Claw/Lick + Shadow Ball
- Chandelure with Hex + Shadow Ball
Bug Types
- Genesect with Fury Cutter + X-Scissor
- Scizor with Fury Cutter + X-Scissor
- Pinsir with Bug Bite + X-Scissor
I’ve led many successful Mewtwo raids using combinations of these Pokémon powered up to at least Level 30. Focus on your highest CP counters with the optimal movesets. Dodge Charged Attacks between strikes whenever possible.
Catching Tips
Once Mewtwo is defeated, the real challenge begins – catching it before it flees!
- Use Golden Razz Berries to maximize catch rate on every ball throw.
- Throw curveballs to increase chance of capture over straight shots.
- Set the attack circle for Great or Excellent throws that give catch bonuses.
- Be patient and keep throwing accurately even if it breaks out repeatedly.
