Filmora has turned from a simple video editor into a somewhat complex software that is used by professionals and hobbyists alike. However, it still has some basic functions that can be used for light editing, especially for changing the video orientation.
In this article, I’m going to show you how to change the video rotation setting in Filmora. At the end of the article, you should be able to rotate the clip to 90°, 180°, 270°, and any number in between. Also, I will show a trick to remove the black screen on the frame sides which appears after changing the rotation.
I’m going to be using Filmora 12 but the process is the same for pretty much older and (hopefully) future versions.

How to rotate a clip in Filmora
1. Launch Filmora, import your video, and then drag it into the video timeline.
2. Double-click on the clip you want to edit until a setting section appears on the left side of the screen.
3. Use the knob on the Rotate section to change the orientation of the video. Additionally, you can use these two buttons to rotate at the most common orientations. Lastly, click OK.
4. The video has been rotated. The change should be reflected on the preview video player.
5. Finally, you may Export the rotated video.
If you want to move more clips, just repeat the same process on each clip.
How to quickly change the video orientation
The method I explained above is particularly better if you need to rotate the video at a rather specific orientation angle. But most of the time, a clip is rotated at a 90-degree increment, so, I have a faster method for that.
If you right-click at any given click, you can select Rotate 90 CW or press Ctrl+Alt+Right. As the name suggests, it will rotate the video by 90-degree. If you want to turn 180, just click the menu twice.
By the way, a lot of times changing the orientation will introduce unnecessary black areas in the video clip. If you want to clean the video from them, click Settings under the preview video player and then click Change Project Aspect Ratio. After that, select a new aspect ratio that better reflects change change and hit OK.
