How to Remove and Block Contacts in Signal Messenger App

Signal Messenger is a popular encrypted messaging app that allows you to communicate securely with your contacts. However, you may sometimes want to remove or block contacts from the app. Here is a detailed guide on how to do that on both iOS and Android devices:

Removing Contacts

Unfortunately, Signal does not have a direct option to remove contacts. However, there are a couple of workarounds:

Delete from Phone’s Address Book

The easiest way is to simply delete the contact from your phone’s address book. Here are the steps:

  1. Open your phone’s Contacts app
  2. Find the contact you want to remove from Signal
  3. Delete the contact

Once you delete the contact from your address book, they will automatically disappear from your Signal contacts.

Note: If the contact messages you again in Signal, they will reappear in your Signal contacts.

Block and then Delete

If you don’t want to delete the contact from your phonebook, you can block them and then delete the chat in Signal:

  1. Open Signal and go to your chat with the contact
  2. Tap on the contact’s name at the top
  3. Scroll down and tap on Block
  4. Confirm the block
  5. Go back to the chat, tap and hold on it, then tap delete
  6. Confirm the deletion

This will remove all traces of the contact and previous chat from your Signal app. If they message you again, their messages will not get through due to the block.

Blocking Contacts

Blocking contacts in Signal prevents them from messaging or calling you. Here are the steps:

  1. Open Signal and go to your chat with the contact
  2. Tap on the contact’s name at the top
  3. Scroll down and tap on Block
  4. Confirm the block

The contact will now be blocked. To unblock them in the future:

  1. Go to Signal Settings
  2. Tap on Privacy
  3. Tap on Blocked
  4. Tap on the blocked contact
  5. Tap on Unblock to confirm

And that’s it! With these simple steps, you can easily remove or block any unwanted contacts on Signal Messenger and take control of your communications. Let me know if you have any other questions!
