Many websites introduced push notifications — a feature that designed to increase engagement. It can be useful and informative, yet most of the time, it just created another list of notifications junk.

To prevent that, you can block those notification requests on the browser level. Some major browsers like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox allows you to turn off notifications.

5. You will see that the notifications request is set to be “always ask” while to deactivate it simply by toggle the setting to “Blocked” (see the following images).

TIP: You can access the Notifications settings page by the following address:

chrome://settings/content/notifications

No need to relaunch the browser, Chrome will apply new setting immediately. You will never see a notifications request any more from visiting a new website. However, you may still able to allow the specific website to show notifications even though it blocked by the new setting.

In order to allow a certain website, simply by clicking the “Site Information” which located on the left side of URL website you’ve visited. From there, you can change notifications settings from “Block” to “Allow”.

Like Google Chrome, the Firefox users still able to allow notifications on certain websites despite the settings prevent it to ask. Simply by right-click on the website page and select “View Page Info”. Next, go to Permissions tab and remove the checkbox of “Use Default”.
