Avast is one of the most efficient antiviruses, yet it sacrifices your PC load time during startup. When running, the antivirus occupies some resources that would make the startup even slower.
So, is there any way to prevent Avast from running at startup?
Yes, there is (technically).
Stopping Avast from running at startup is impossible, but there is an alternative!
I’ve tried some methods to disable Avast, however, it leads to nothing. Even the Avast forum itself could not help this request, simply because the system needs at least one active protection.
You can’t prevent Avast from running at startup, but you can postpone it!
How to stop Avast from running at startup and delay it instead
Time Needed : 2 minutes
In this tutorial, we are going to activate the Delay Avast Startup feature which allows mandatory Windows services to run first, and then Avast will run. That way, the program won't slow down the startup.
- First, we need to run Avast. Go to the system tray icon.Advertisement
- And click on the Avast logo to show the program. Otherwise, you can launch the program via Start Menu or desktop icon if available.
- Go to Menu.
- Select Settings.
- Click on the Troubleshooting option.
- Now, check on the Delay Avast startup.
- Close the window. You might want to restart the PC to see the effect.

This delay feature will make your computer more vulnerable during startup. So, it is advised to not launch any program during the first 2-5 minutes of booting. You may also disable some startup apps and switch to AHCI to make the booting process faster.
Perhaps you want on-demand protection for your computer, but sadly, that situation is strictly restricted by Windows. The closest you can get is scheduled scanning. I hope that helps!
